In session, I primarily utilize cognitive/behavioral strategies along with interpersonal and communication techniques.  When appropriate, physiological relaxation strategies and parent training are also utilized.  Working together we can address areas including anxiety, depression, behavioral issues, communication struggles, social interaction difficulties, and family conflict.

Children

Working with children and their families is a unique and special opportunity.   In combination with working individually with children to address specific areas of growth such as peer relationships, anxiety, behavior struggles or other needs, I often seek caregiver participation when working with children and adolescents.  Parents and loved ones can be powerful resources in eliciting growth and development.

Adolescents

Sessions with adolescents are focused not only on understanding and addressing possible struggles with mood, self-image, anxiety, or other emotional difficulties, but also in creating an environment of trust and open acceptance to allow each individual adolescent to feel the comfort necessary to express and explore personal thoughts, feelings and fears free of  judgement or pressure.  When necessary, adolescents can also work in session to better identify and communicate emotions and needs and once prepared, do so with parents and family in and outside of sessions.

Adults

Regardless of age or gender, many of us struggle to find and maintain balance between the demands of our daily lives with our own individual social, emotional, and physical needs.  As a result, we may find ourselves suffering from patterns of overwhelming stress, peer or family conflict, instances of anger, or anxiety and depression.  These struggles can further limit our access to the necessary supports and resources in our lives.  Sessions with individual adults often focus on recognizing the patterns of thinking and behaving that create this divide and developing strategies to create new patterns aimed at not only accessing supports and resources but also believing that we deserve to do so.
